New equipment for the only laboratory of its kind in Europe

An ultrasound machine, a pedobarographic platform, a podoscope, and even a special chair designed by our scientists – these are the new additions that will expand the diagnostic capabilities of the only laboratory in Europe and the second in the world focused on ankle sprain simulation and research, which operates at Opole University of Technology.

From the new academic year, we are expanding the diagnostic capabilities of our laboratory. We’ve just acquired an ultrasound machine, a pedobarographic platform that records foot pressure on the ground, perfectly reflecting how we position and load the foot. This will allow us to determine whether the person being tested distributes weight correctly while walking and if there are areas of increased pressure on the foot that could predispose them to injury. Additionally, we’ve added a podoscope, used for non-invasive evaluation of foot arching and deformities. We’re also planning to equip the biochemistry laboratory with reagents, as well as to purchase reagents for genetic and biochemical research,” enumerates Wojciech Stefaniak, deputy head of the Department of Physiotherapy at the Faculty of Physical Education and Physiotherapy at Opole University of Technology.
