Receiving the symbolic key to the city gates and thus taking control of Opole by the students was the main highlight of Żakinada – the annual costume parade that passed through the center of Opole.

Every year, students surprise with their creativity when it comes to costumes for Żakinada. This time was no different: a colorful procession, including characters from popular fairy tales or movies, set off from the first campus of Opole University of Technology through the campus of Opole University towards the town hall.

Żakinada is already a tradition worth upholding; it’s a chance to integrate with other students. Piastonalia has a great atmosphere; there’s nothing left to do but have fun,” says Miłosz Włoch, a student from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

The culmination of Żakinada was the symbolic handover of the key to the city gates from the Mayor of Opole, Arkadiusz Wiśniewski.
